Today I am suffering from a case of mid-holiday ennui. Actually, I go back to work in five days. Ugh. And today is the first day I started thinking about work. Sigh. It would be better if I had something fun to do, but I'm stuck in a rut. I have so much time on my hands (which is unheard of for some), yet I can't make myself scrapbook. Can't read a book (can't sit still long enough). Summer time TV is yucky. Well, except for So You Think YOu Can Dance, and that's on once a week. I have to go to a funeral tomorrow, which I am SO dreading. I could be learning more about my camera ... but I don't feel like it. And I've been spending too much time on the computer.
I DID accomplish backing up all 5000+ photos on my computer and did a bit of cleaning up/reorganizing. And I hope to have the same done with my videotapes/DVDs before I go back to work. Hope to do some shopping (LSS here I come) and head out to Waterton for a day. But today was BORING.
So, because I'm bored, I'm going to give you lucky readers my desert island list - a few of my favourite things right now - in a "top five" list format.
Favourite Movies:
- Pride and Prejudice. In any incarnation, but most especially with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. Sigh.
- Summer Stock. My absolute favourite musical. Not the best story wise but Judy Garland and Gene Kelly are BRILLIANT in it. Magic.
- Ever After. Seriously. The ONLY movie I've ever watched, and then watched again right after it ended. Love it.
- The Sound of Music. I can remember watching this as a child and being in love with the Leisl/Rolf storyline, and now that I'm older I love the Maria/Captain Von Trapp romance. I think I have it memorized, I've seen it so many times.
- Anne of Green Gables. With Meagan Follows and Jonathan Crombie. The books are wonderful, the movies are brilliant. Another one almost memorized. ;0)
Favourite Books:
- Absolutely ANYTHING by Terry Brooks. Period.
- The Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. I know it's more than one book, but they must all be mentioned. Especially Voyager.
- The Belgariad (another series) by David Eddings. Fantasy fiction at its best.
- The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. My favourite children's book.
- Clean and Simple Scrapbooking the Sequel by Cathy Zielske. This book seriously changed the way I look at scrapbooking. I usually just flip through and look at the layouts first, but with this book I read it cover to cover and then started again. I love Cathy's work.
Favourite Albums/Songs:
- Taking the Long Way - Dixie Chicks. I have listened to this SO much this summer. I love the lyrics, the instrumentation - the Chicks have never sounded better and I am such a fan.
- Unloved (or anything by the brilliant Jann Arden). She is so insightful and REAL. And completely and utterly hilarious. Had the pleasure of seeing her live, and she is just a riot. Her writing is amazing, too.
- Yellow - Coldplay. It's no secret that I love Coldplay, specifically Chris Martin. I watched the video for Yellow yesterday and it's just Chris, singing this amazing song on a beautiful beach, welcoming the dawn. Simple and moving and beautiful.
- Anything by U2. My favourite band. Couldn't pick a favourite song/album if I tried.
- Harry Connick Jr. Currently listening to Harry on Broadway Act 1. My favourite album is probably Blue Light, Red Light. Or Songs I Heard. ;0)
Favourite TV Shows:
- Grey's Anatomy. Of course!
- The Amazing Race. Favourite reality series of all time.
- The Office. It's funny because it's true! Love Steve Carell.
- ER. I have watched every single episode. For eleven seasons. Some years are better than others. But I remain faithful. Love this show.
- The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. By far the smartest/funniest talk show EVER.
Favourite Games:
- Things. This game is an absolute riot. Laugh till you cry/run for the bathroom.
- Phase 10. Like rummy, but more fun.
- Kick the Can. Haven't played for ages, but if you have kids (or ever were one!) you know what I'm talking about.
- Trivial Pursuit. I'm a bit of a shark, though, so I don't get to play often (no one wants to play with me!)
- Scrabble. A classic. Many fond memories of Scrabble games with my mom. She usually won.
So, what are your favourites?
J.
