I’ve been reading over my Christmas/December posts from the last few years – and it’s funny – I see a pattern. I tend to have my “winter blues” days, then some really great days, then Christmas is over. And I’ve only posted two or three times.
This year I’m keeping a December Daily journal, inspired by Ali Edwards’ December Daily album. I’m currently doing an online scrapbooking class and getting a bit behind – and I knew I wouldn’t be able to do the whole Christmas album this month as well – so I decided to journal, take a few photos, and then put it together after Christmas. That’s the plan, anyway.
Every year I’m amazed by how fast December flies by. It was just Halloween, wasn’t it?
I think as a theme over the next short weeks to Christmas, I’m just going to post about some of my favourite Christmas activities, memories, movies, etc… Christmas favourites in general. I could do it all in one long post, but you know you wouldn’t get to the end of it. I have no delusions about my writing prowess (or lack thereof!).
Today I spent some time reading the December Ensign. If you’re not familiar, this is the magazine produced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, for its adult members. (With the New Era for teens and The Friend for children). It was full of wonderful Christmas stories and articles – often leaving me in tears or just feeling so uplifted. I decided that I really need to put forth more effort into helping others this season. I put a quote from President Monson’s article in the sidebar – I thought it was beautifully put. I shed a few tears, especially, over the story In Shepherds' Field, in this article. I so appreciate the insight and spiritual uplift we gain from other’s experiences and testimonies. Makes me want to be a better example.
I’m listening right now to the new Harry Connick, Jr. Christmas album (link in the sidebar to the left). This is his third Christmas album and it’s just as good if not better than the others! I especially love “Christmas Day” and “Winter Wonderland” – a charming duet with Harry and his daughter, Sarah Kate. Check it out!
This afternoon I’ll work on my class work for the online scrapbooking course I’m taking – Design Your Life (taught by the incredibly cool Cathy Zielske, through Big Picture Scrapbooking). I’m behind (tsk!) and really want to get my Christmas cards done (but I am going to make myself get caught up first). Then, gingerbread (or in our case, graham cracker) house decorating with my sister and her family.
That said, I’d better get moving before they get here. Hoping your holiday is shaping up to be a good one!
Peace,
J
